New study of my mineral series, peridot crystals melted in lava.
Done in sidefx houdini, rendered in maya.
Was a fun little project, could spend way more time refining material lookdev, but feeling my gaming laptop is already sick of it. haha
My goal was mostly to keep learning while experimenting, and did learn a few things about detailing fractures, houdini optimization... may make a video breakdown later.
Technically the main challenge was proceduraly fragmenting a porous basic shape with a feeling of rough edges and generate a crystal growth into the broken sections.
